2008 A Year To Remember

This year has been filled with triumph coupled with hope and excitement and bridled by pessimism. As we look back on our top stories of this year, we touch on the times that made this year unique and remember the news that, from January until December, set 2008 apart as a year of change.

After being sworn in as Dallas' first African American District Attorney, Craig Watkins conquered feats that changed the outlook of the legal system for the good. He made wrongful convictions his personal priority, overturning sentences left and right, in conjunction with the Innocence Project of Texas, through the use of DNA testing and the review of evidence illegally withheld from defense attorneys. But Mr. Watkins did not hesitate to convict those who deserved it and opened cases dating back as many as 30 years to seek freedom for the wrongly accused.
