SUMMARY:AURORA BIENNIAL 2024: FUTUREPRESENTPAST
DESCRIPTION:AURORA\, the Dallas-based public arts organization founded by\nartists in 2010\, is pleased to announce the full artist list and project details for the sixth edition of the\nAURORA Biennial—the largest free public art and technology event in North Texas. Under the theme\nFuturePresentPast\, the 2024 edition will take over significant sites across Downtown Dallas on\nSaturday\, November 16\, 2024\, offering a transformative art and technology experience to all. \nCurated by Kendal Henry and Leslie Moody Castro\, the one-night event will feature large-scale\, site-\nspecific installations\, performances\, and activations by twenty-six visionary artists. Addressing a diverse \nset of societal issues such as displacement\, migration\, health advocacy\, and environmental\nsustainability\, the multimedia\, often interactive\, installations engage with social and technological\nhistories\, offering speculative visions of potential futures. From algorithmic artworks to musical\nperformances\, the Biennial projects will explore human relationships with technology and built\nenvironments\, mimicry and misinformation\, memory\, and more.\nDaniel Canogar\, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer\, and Alejandro Almanza Pereda will join the list of\nparticipating artists that includes Ciara Elle Bryant\, Jess Garland\, Doug Land\, Julie Libersat\,\nMelanie Clemmons and Zak Loyd\, Steve Parker\, Hector A. Ramirez\, Diana Rojas\, Daniel Rozin\,\nTramaine Townsend\, Marina Zurkow and James Schmitz\, and talented students from Booker T.\nWashington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas.\nA centerpiece of this year’s program is the debut of Midnight Moment outside of Times Square\,\nmarking the first time this iconic public art event has traveled beyond New York City. As the world’s\nlargest and longest-running digital public art program\, it will transform the Dallas skyline with video\nworks by Nancy Baker Cahill\, Marco Brambilla\, Zoë Buckman\, Victoria Fard\, Casey Kauffmann\,\nKambui Olujimi\, Alex Prager\, Federico Solmi\, and Tali Keren and Alex Strada. The video works will\nbe projected every half hour at key sites including Dallas City Hall\, the Dallas Public Library\, and the\nKay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.\nIn collaboration with local partners\, AURORA has played a critical role in elevating Dallas as a cultural\ncapital for art and technology for over a decade\, attracting over 350\,000 visitors to the previous five\neditions of the large-scale Biennial. This year’s Biennial will take place across an expansive urban\nfootprint\, centered on the iconic I.M. Pei-designed Dallas City Hall and surrounding areas. With a focus\non bridging local and global communities\, the event will bring together regional\, national\, and\ninternational artists in a thought-provoking showcase of technology-driven public art. \nAURORA Biennial 2024\nFuturePresentPast\nSaturday\, November 16th\, 2024\, 7PM–1AM\nDallas City Hall\, 1500 Marilla St.\nFREE ENTRY\ndallasaurora.com

SUMMARY:DREAMGIRLS: Presented by Jubilee Theatre in partnership with Performing Arts Fort Worth
DESCRIPTION:  \nOne of the most successful and explosive musicals in American theatre history comes to the Bass Hall stage to round out Jubilee Theatre’s 41st Season. DREAMGIRLS takes the audience through a time portal of when rhythm and blues and soul music magic were part of a new American sound that swept the nation and the world. The musical goes behind-the-scenes to reveal the business side of show business and the shared drama that exudes love\, heartache\, rejection\, soulful melodies\, high-octane vocals\, triumph\, and defeat – both musically and personally – through all of the characters’ journeys. DREAMGIRLS is a cultural phenomenon set to one of the most dynamic soundtracks of our lives.\nTicket & Info Link: www.basshall.com/dreamgirls

Hickman – a fearless country fella from Mineola\, Texas came to Dallas with his camera to get his ‘hustle’ on and ended up accidently documenting the history of Black Dallas. From protest demonstrations to debutante balls to funerals\, parades\, White folks ‘acting up’ and everything in between\, Hickman created an amazing treasure trove of 10\,000 +photographs. \nMurine Bailey –  a highly revered DISD music teacher and choir director at Lincoln  High School\, Mrs. Bailey was loved and respected throughout the Dallas community.  Upon her retirement\, the Lincoln High school choir and a street in South Dallas were named in her honor. \nErnie Banks –  known as “Mr. Cub”  a Dallas native straight out of Short North Dallas (aka UpTown)\, played for the Chicago Cubs from 1953 to 1971. His remarkable career earned him induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977\, his first year of eligibility. \nDickie Foster – a savvy Black businesswoman\, was a pioneer journalist/co-owner of the Dallas Post Tribune newspaper.
