DESCRIPTION:Dallas Metroplex Musicians’ Association is elated to announce the upcoming William S. Mitchell Sacred Choral Music Workshop\, to convene Monday through Friday\, June 20 – June 24\, 2022\, 7:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. The Concert will be held Saturday\, June 25\, 2022\, at 4:30 P. M. Pearly Gate Baptist Church will host this endeavor. It is located at 6021 University Hills Drive\, Dallas\, Texas 75241\, Dr. Thomas J. Payne\, Senior Pastor\, and Dr. Robbie Moore\, Pastor. \nDuring our June 8\, 2019\, meeting\, officers and members of DMMA unanimously voted to rename the Sacred Choral Music Workshop after the organization’s Founder\, William S. Mitchell\, effective June 2020. While the pandemic has delayed our gathering for the 2020 and 2021 events\, the renaming ceremony will be held during this year’s Concert. \nThe 2022 Clinician is world acclaimed Professor Natorshau Davis of Shreveport\, Louisiana\, a college professor\, director extraordinaire\, and a highly sought-after workshop clinician. We continue to be favored with staffing this event with highly experienced guest Clinicians steeped in the sacred and choral music traditions. \nWe will maintain COVID-19 protocol. Many have inquired about the Workshop. Please help in getting the word out by inviting others to experience the Workshop and Concert. Pre-registration is $30.00 per person and is available through June 1\, 2022. After such date\, regular registration\, $35.00 per person\, will be conducted on-site during the Workshop. Pre-registration assists us greatly in planning and ensuring the readiness of your music binder upon arrival. DESCRIPTION:SOUTH DALLAS  \nCONNECTIONAL ALLIANCE \nWe are inviting you to…drum roll\, please. \nTHE HALF AIN’T NEVER BEEN TOLD \na stage play of pride\, struggle\, and victory \nProduced by Remembering Black Dallas \n\n George Keaton\, Jr.\, Founding Executive Director of Remembering Black Dallas\, has skillfully combined his knowledge of local history and creative talents to produce a magnificent play about little known Dallas Black pioneers ‘making a way out of no way.’ \n\nCome witness the legacy of our bold and ingenious Black Ancestors:(brief bios) \nThelma Richardson —  in 1942 with the help of Negro Teacher’s Alliance & civil rights attorney Thurgood Marshall\, Mrs. Richardson had to “fight the power”\, winning a landmark lawsuit that “charged for years the Dallas school district maintained a policy of paying Black teachers and principals less than white educators with the same education\, experience.”  Organize. Educate. \nOtis Boykin — a genius and valedictorian of his 1932 Booker T. Washington class\, dropped out of college but later went on to become an inventor/engineer with 25 major patents including a patent that enables the pacemaker to function properly. \nAnderson Bonner – was born an enslaved African around 1835 and after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1865 \, Brother Bonner got busy letting his dollars stack and became one of the largest landowners in Dallas County with over 2000 acres.  Free the Land. \nJulia Scott Reed – a highly acclaimed journalist at  the Black owned Dallas Express Newspaper\, Mrs. Reed left the Express to become  the first Black journalist hired at the Dallas Morning News in1967 during the height of the Civil Rights/Black Power Movements. \nR.C. Hickman – a fearless country fella from Mineola\, Texas came to Dallas with his camera to get his ‘hustle’ on and ended up accidently documenting the history of Black Dallas. From protest demonstrations to debutante balls to funerals\, parades\, White folks ‘acting up’ and everything in between\, Hickman created an amazing treasure trove of 10\,000 +photographs. \nMurine Bailey –  a highly revered DISD music teacher and choir director at Lincoln  High School\, Mrs. Bailey was loved and respected throughout the Dallas community.  Upon her retirement\, the Lincoln High school choir and a street in South Dallas were named in her honor. \nErnie Banks –  known as “Mr. Cub”  a Dallas native straight out of Short North Dallas (aka UpTown)\, played for the Chicago Cubs from 1953 to 1971. His remarkable career earned him induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977\, his first year of eligibility. \nDickie Foster – a savvy Black businesswoman\, was a pioneer journalist/co-owner of the Dallas Post Tribune newspaper. Named in honor of the late Alan Ross\, the long-time former executive director of Dallas Pride\, this mile-long event will feature more than 200 parade entries – including floats\, marching bands\, performers and other groups showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community. \n2022 grand marshals for the Texas Freedom Parade are Danny Cabrera\, David Hearn\, Adam Medrano\, Cassie Nova\, Linze Serell and Kristi Wilson. SUMMARY:Dallas Pride Miller Lite Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:deThe Dallas Pride Miller Lite Music Festival is an all-day\, family-friendly event at Dallas Pride featuring indoor and outdoor activities\, more than 200 vendors\, and plenty to eat\, see and shop — a day of fun for all ages. Family Pride Zone\, an area designed for families\, will feature several bounce houses\, face painting and entertainment for the kids in the Automobile Building at Fair Park. The festival also will feature Teen Pride\, produced by Real Live Connection to foster a safe environment for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13 to 19 and their friends to enjoy live entertainment from artists and DJs\, and other age-appropriate activities. Local animal rescue groups will also be on-site for guests to meet a possible new furry family member. \nOn the main stage at the Dallas Pride Miller Lite Music Festival on Saturday is Dallas Pride’s Live Out Proud. Hosted by Marsha Dimes\, the show features fabulous drag artists from North Texas\, including Jada Pinkett Fox\, the Sisters-in-Action\, Sister Helen Holy\, A’keria C. Davenport and Shangela. Straight from Paris (Texas\, that is!)\, drag queen\, reality TV star and actor Shangela will make her first headlining performance at Dallas Pride. \nAlso wowing the crowd on Saturday will be legendary artists and entertainers including the Cast of the Rose Room\, Black Girl Magic\, Kameron Ross from America’s Got Talent\, Kylee O’Hara Fatale and the finalists from The Queer Off\, The Roommates\, The Saloon Girls\, Mi Diva Loca\, Double Trouble Does Pride with Raquel Blake and Bleach\, The Etheridge Experience and performers from Uptown Players. Dallas Pride will also feature performances from Averi Burk\, Cameron McCloud of Cure for Paranoia\, Carley Beardon\, Johnny Bee & The Leo Sun Project\, Kaatii\, Lorelei K and xBValentine. American Sign Language interpreters will be present at each stage to perform live translations. \nSaturday’s events will conclude with a dazzling\, rainbow-themed fireworks display in the evening over Fair Park. \nThe Dallas Pride Miller Lite Music Festival is Saturday\, June 4\, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.\, in Fair Park.
