The Dallas Wings soared to a season-opening victory on Wednesday night, edging out the visiting Chicago Sky 87-79 at a sold-out College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. The win marks a strong start for the Wings, who displayed resilience and clutch play down the stretch.
The game was a close battle throughout, with both teams trading baskets. Chicago even held a 10-point lead late in the first quarter. However, the Wings chipped away at the deficit and entered halftime trailing by just three points.
The third quarter saw a more even contest, with neither team able to establish a significant advantage. The tension escalated in the final frame, as the score remained tied with just over three minutes remaining.
This is where the Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale truly took flight. The All-Star guard scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, including a clutch three-pointer with 31 seconds left that put Dallas up by eight points.

Alongside Ogunbowale’s heroics, the Wings received valuable contributions from Natasha Howard, who notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Teaira McCowan, who added another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
For the Sky, rookie Angel Reese impressed in her debut, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. However, Chicago’s offense stalled in the final minutes, allowing Dallas to secure the win.
The 4,000 fan-deep, sold-out crowd at College Park Center that included Dirk Nowitzki, Nic Claxton, Tyrese Maxey and Atlanta rapper, Latto provided a vibrant atmosphere, a testament to the growing excitement surrounding the WNBA and women’s basketball. The Wings, fueled by their home fans’ energy, delivered a thrilling performance to kick off their season.
This victory sets the tone for a promising season for the Dallas Wings. With a strong core and a deep bench, they’ve shown their ability to overcome challenges and emerge victorious. The rest of the WNBA should be on notice, as the Wings look poised to make a serious run this season.
The Chicago Sky will have a chance for redemption Saturday May 18 as the two teams are scheduled to meet again at College Park Center in Arlington, TX at 7pm cst.
