History was made on Tuesday, January 29th as Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett had her swearing-in ceremony for the 119th Congress at the Grand Hall in Dallas, Texas. This will be Crockett’s second term as representing Texas’s 30th Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

Before the ceremony, DW asked Congresswoman Crockett what she had to say about other representatives still in support of President Trump after his dramatic week in office.

“Find your backbone… There are Republicans who tell me privately, that they disagree with this stuff but they would never dare cross him. They are afraid of him. It is time out for politics because we may not survive if we don’t stand up for what’s right.”

As the ceremony commenced, nationally syndicated radio personality DeDe McGuire of K104’s DeDe in the Morning Show. The Duncanville High School JROTC commenced the Presentation of Colors, while the Duncanville High School Choir were the voices of the musical selection.

The Official Ceremonial Swearing-In of the U.S. Congresswoman was conducted by Judge Audrey Moorehead, the first Black woman to serve as the judge of Dallas County Criminal Court #3. She is also Congresswoman Crockett’s soror of their shared sorority Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated.

After her official swearing-in, Congresswoman Crockett rallied the audience in a shared sentiment of not giving up, and continuing on as participants of democracy in these trying times. She took the time during her speech to acknowledge the elected officials, and her constituents that were in the audience as well. 

“As y’all encourage me, encourage yourselves. Renew your faith, renew your energy, it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. We are a strong people and we will eventually prevail so long as we never give up.”

Her historical swearing-in ceremony served as a beacon of light that people may not realize. Her tirelessly fighting for not only her district but the American people, is exactly the kind of fight and tenacity that we need in these trying times.
