Dallasโ€™s creative community is defined by its diverse voices and bold storytellingโ€”and few embody this spirit more than Promise Noelle. A two-time self-published author and Dallas-based poet, Promise has been weaving her words into power since she was seven, using poetry as both refuge and revolution.

A Prodigyโ€™s Early Journey

Promiseโ€™s journey began early. At 14, driven by an unyielding desire to create space for unheard voices, she founded a poetry club. That set the stage for her lifelong commitment to the written word. Today, she revisits pieces written a decade ago, a testament to the prophetic nature of her pen and the enduring power of her art.

A Life-Altering Moment

In September 2023, Promiseโ€™s life took a dramatic turn. On Labor Day, while en route to see her mother, her journey was abruptly halted near I-30 and Akard when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the median.

Desperate to survive, Promise forced herself out of the wrecked vehicle, her heart pounding with fear. But the danger was far from over. With cars still speeding past, she was suddenly hitโ€”not once, but twice in rapid successionโ€”by two separate vehicles. The impact left her fighting for her life.

In an instant, her independence, her voice, and her mobility were stripped away. Awakening in Methodist Hospitalโ€”unable to speak or move, with tubes in her mouthโ€”she confronted a surreal reality. News outlets had already broadcast her name, and the world knew of her accident before she did.

She spent the next three and a half to four months at Methodist Hospital, followed by another grueling month at Baylor Inpatient Rehabilitation, enduring an agonizing road to recovery. Though her body was broken, Promiseโ€™s spirit remained unyielding. The accident forced her to depend on others. Teaching her that true strength lies not in solitary survival but in the courage to rebuild with intention. Confronting both physical pain and the emotional scars of trauma, she learned the importance of setting boundaries and protecting her peaceโ€”even as she continued to share her story with raw honesty.

Her legal case remains ongoing, yet in the courtroom of life, Promise has already claimed victory through her relentless resilience.

Art as a Beacon of Healing

Promiseโ€™s poetry is raw, vulnerable, and unfilteredโ€”a mirror to the trials she has endured. She doesnโ€™t write for accolades; she writes to heal, inspire, and remind others that redemption often emerges from lifeโ€™s wreckage. As she puts it,

โ€œBe intentional with your art, ensuring it authentically reflects both your present reality and the future you envision.โ€

Beyond the Written Word

Promiseโ€™s creative journey extends beyond poetry. She is currently pursuing a masterโ€™s degree in criminology after earning her bachelorโ€™s in criminal justice. Today, Promise is as equally committed to understanding the complexities of the system as she is to making space for creativity. Since returning to Dallas in December 2021 after graduating from Grambling State University, she has immersed herself in a vibrant poetry scene, learning from seasoned artists and emerging as a leader in her own right.

Her work is buoyed by a loving and supportive community. One notable pillar is โ€œColors and Coversโ€โ€”a music, poetry, and art show led by Azul Bella. Reflecting on the initiative, Azul Bella explains:

โ€œColors and Covers is inspired by my childhood curiosity about art and music. I always wondered where these underground artists came from and what โ€˜undergroundโ€™ truly meant. Moving to Dallas changed my lifeโ€”my sister and I began attending poetry events, and that ignited my lifelong passion for art. At Colors and Covers, we celebrate diverse art genres and the raw talent of underground artists. We are more than just a show; weโ€™re a community of like-minded individuals who connect, collaborate, and grow together.โ€

A Story Still Unfolding

Promise Noelle doesnโ€™t merely write about resilienceโ€”she embodies it. Through every verse, every performance, and every breath, she transforms pain into a powerful narrative of endurance, evolution, and hope. Her story is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: Promise Noelle is here for a purpose, and she is living it with unwavering determination.
