Overview:
Texas is experiencing a rise in measles cases among children, with reports of Vitamin A toxicity due to the virus. The media has labeled the criminal security breach "Signalgate" but remains unconcerned about the people actually murdered by this illegal, unjustified attack. Trump's tariffs are a tax and a new lawsuit has been filed against them. Business groups are lining up to sue over the tariffs. National Public Health Week begins today.
Today, Monday, April 7, 2025, is the beginning of National Public Health Week. Here in Texas, we await the next measles update – due tomorrow – to see who’ll collect on the over/under 500 cases bet. That the majority of afflicted are children makes me wonder when the warrants are coming for their parents’ neglect.
Just kidding. These are white Republican-voting Texans. Nothing will happen to them. Even though it is absolutely justified. It’s one thing to be ridiculously anti-vax. It’s another to participate in spreading a virus that results in over 300 children needlessly suffering with no regard whatsoever for the dangerous aftereffects known to afflict measles survivors.
And because neglecting vaccinations isn’t harmful enough, there are now reports of children with measles being admitted to hospitals with Vitamin A toxicity. Because of course there are.
So last week was the latest court appearance related to the saga of the greatest rap beef ever that just won’t die. I was sure the case would be thrown out after the Nokia video drop. Especially with Drake’s lawyers now dropping the botting allegations. But no. Now Team Drake has to amend their complaint, which is due next week.
If Texas schools are now anti-CRT and anti-DEI, how is it legal to teach kindergarteners in public schools the Columbus myth? Or the Washington “cherry tree” myth? Or, frankly, any other societal mythology conforming to Texas Republicans current description of “American beliefs and principles”?
I’m still not over how quickly the media labeled the criminal security breach “Signalgate” only to remain strangely unconcerned about the people actually murdered by this illegal, unjustified attack. I guess the tariffs are the result of Europe not falling over each other to “thank” this White House for making an already bad situation worse.
Finally, let’s talk about those insane tariffs. The last thing I ever thought I’d need to write are the words “Ted Cruz is absolutely right.” But here we are. Trump’s tariffs are a tax. Don’t let anyone gaslight you otherwise. Ted tried mightily to put lipstick on the pig by suggesting that these undeserved punitive tariffs could “entice” other countries to drop tariff rates.
But Ted knows what’s going on. The world isn’t in that kind of mood. Many countries would rather establish new trading partners. Especially if the USA is going to keep being so unpredictable. Which is why business groups are already lining up to sue over the tariffs.
That’s all for today. Stay sane out there.
