I had the opportunity to attend an exclusive media preview of Winsome Prime, a new Black-owned steakhouse preparing to make its Dallas debut this spring in the heart of Trinity Groves. Created by the award-winning team behind Houston’s acclaimed Warwick restaurant, Winsome Prime delivers an elevated Southern steakhouse experience—with a New American twist—that feels luxurious, intentional, and deeply rooted in culture.

Stylish and Inviting

From the moment you walk in, the ambiance sets the tone. Leather seating, exposed brick, rich wood, and low lighting create an intimate yet vibrant space. Whether you’re planning cocktails with colleagues or a romantic night out, Winsome Prime offers a range of options—from group lounging to bar seating and a casual whiskey room.

But beyond its visual warmth and upscale décor, the restaurant makes an immediate cultural impression. Black-and-white photographs line the walls, drawing inspiration from classic Southern elegance, jazz culture, and Black excellence. The art doesn’t overpower—it enhances the atmosphere with subtle nods to the heritage and creativity that define the Winsome experience.

Co-owned by Rob Wright, Mazen Baltagi, Steve Rogers, and Kurt-Ogechi Agomuo, the team behind Winsome is no stranger to excellence. Their Houston restaurant has hosted a who’s who of celebrities and athletes—including Shaquille O’Neal, Bun B, and Terrell Owens—and Dallas, with its sophisticated culinary scene, was the natural next step. “Future guests can expect the superb culinary experience we are known for in Houston,” said Wright, “but with an innovative approach to the dishes that have evolved with our brand.”

The Food

And innovative it is. Under the direction of culinary lead Jabril Riddick, the menu is steak-forward but elevated with Cajun-inspired Southern fare. At the preview, I began with crab beignets—golden, crispy bites balanced by a touch of sweetness from charred pineapple sauce and powdered sugar. The colossal shrimp cocktail, was a standout: four large, beautifully chilled shrimp served in a martini glass with cocktail sauce.

For the main course, I sampled the Snapper Orleans, subbed with salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked, served over a bed of collard green risotto and topped with a creamy seafood sauce—comforting yet refined.

The cocktail program is equally compelling. I tried:

  • Sidecar Royale: A rich yet approachable blend of cognac, sweet potato syrup, and lemon.
  • A Star Is Born: Light, floral, and celebratory—ideal for a pre-dinner toast.
  • My Last Two Dollars: Mezcal, tequila, and chocolate bitters come together for a bold, smoky finish with a hint of mystery.

To close the evening, I chose the Mom’s Carrot Cake. Admittedly, I’m not usually a fan of carrot cake—but this one was a revelation. Moist, subtly spiced, and topped with just the right amount of cream cheese frosting, it may have converted me for good.

Winsome for All Occasions

What sets Winsome Prime apart is its ability to seamlessly shift from dinner to lounge, with music, cocktails, and conversation continuing long after the last bite. It’s more than a restaurant—it’s an atmosphere.

Set to officially open at 331 Singleton Blvd. in Spring 2025, Winsome Prime is poised to become a staple of Dallas’s dining scene. For updates, follow along at @WinsomePrime or visit www.WinsomePrime.com.
