Overview:
The passage of the Medicare and Medicaid cuts in the new legislation has sparked outrage among Americans, with critics arguing that the bill is a massive transfer of wealth to billionaires, while penalizing the most vulnerable in society, including veterans, immigrants, and children. The bill includes cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, defunds programs that help poor veterans keep their houses, and imposes policies that make it harder and take longer for veterans to receive care. Critics argue that Republicans have continuously given billionaires more ways to avoid paying taxes, and that the bill is a continuation of this trend.
They knew it was a horrible piece of legislation from the beginning.
After all, Republicans have spent every moment that they have been in power this century handing billionaires more ways to avoid paying taxes. What more did those 83 billionaires need from The People?
In fact, this bill may go down in history as the most corrupt transfer of wealth yet. Seems almost fitting that it will be signed by, arguably, the most corrupt president ever. After spending months lying to the American Public about how there would be no cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Republicans finally gave up on the lie, opting instead for a “who gives a hoot?” attitude.
Indeed, they weren’t even afraid to get on camera with their “yeah, yeah, people will die, so what?” answers to reporters asking them about how the bill would effect the needy in their states.
Then double down and say it again. Because screw those poor folks, right?
But why should they care when every justification for this terrible bill is based on a lie?
The Medicare/Medicaid “scammers”
To hear Republicans tell it, there are millions of able-bodied people in America enjoying free healthcare just for the hell of it. Not in their states, of course, because they live in the lands of fiscal stewards, but they are sure these freeloaders are out there. Somewhere. Never mind that nobody on Medicaid receives a penny as a result of being destitute enough to qualify for Medicaid, why change a lie that has been used successfully to gin up the base since the Reagan administration?
Alligator Auschwitz
By now, it is obvious that there are far fewer illegal immigrants than Republicans spent the past four years lying about. No “tens of millions” anywhere to round up. And yet, Republicans just made ICE the biggest jailers in America with this bill. So who do you think will be filling up those concentration camps? And for those lucky few foreigners allowed to immigrate? Expect exorbitant hikes on fees for visas and work permits. These cretins are even charging asylum seekers. Because when you become a refugee due to circumstances created by people not in the line of fire, what better way to welcome them than to charge $100 a pop?
Those Lazy No-Good Veterans
I’m old enough to remember when Republicans at least pretended to honor veterans. However, even before this horrendous bill passed, veterans were on the chopping block. Last month, Rep. Kelly (D-IL) provided the following statement about the DOGE cuts: โThe Trump administration has fired over 6,000 veterans who are federal workers, implemented hiring freezes in the VA hospital system and cut mental healthcare for veterans. These attacks against the brave men and women who served our country in uniform are undignified and disrespectful.โ Now, Republicans have defunded a program that helped poor veterans keep their houses, defunded mental health programs for veterans and, for good measure, imposed policies that will make it harder and take longer for veterans to receive care.
Let the kiddos ‘eat cake’
Does anyone despise poor children more than Republicans? It seems every time kids say they’re hungry, Republicans respond with something along the lines of “we’re busy over here making sure drag queens can’t read nursery rhymes to y’all, you ingrates!” And so it continues with massive cuts to SNAP. Because if they’re not willing to give kids free lunch, they may as well take away breakfast and dinner too.
That’s just an initial takeaway from the passage of this bill. Mitch McConnell reportedly claimed that We The People would “get over it.” After all, Trump was re-elected despite all the horrific things he did in his first term. So maybe he’s right.
But I don’t think so.
