Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are back on the road this fall, running through North America with Alfredo: The Tour. The run celebrates the duo’s two collaborative albums: Alfredo and Alfredo 2, stretching from its kickoff in Philadelphia on September 20 to a closing night in San Francisco on November 9.

Laurels for ‘Alfredo’

The tour rides the momentum of Alfredo 2, released in July alongside a short film directed by Nick Walker. The project sharpened the chemistry Gibbs and Alchemist first built in 2020, blending Gibbs’ razor-sharp storytelling with Alchemist’s cinematic production.

When ‘Alfredo’ dropped in 2020, it earned a Grammy nomination but never had the chance to be performed live. The pandemic forced fans to experience the project only through headphones. Five years later, Gibbs and Alchemist are finally bringing both records to the stage.

Dallas got its turn on September 26, when the tour stopped at South Side Ballroom. The night opened with three distinct sounds: Jalen Ngonda’s soulful, throwback grooves, Mavi’s sharp and introspective bars, and Sven Wunder’s jazz-laced instrumentals. Together, they created a wide-ranging atmosphere before the headliners took over.

Serving It Up Raw For South Side Ballroom

When Gibbs and Alchemist hit the stage, the theme came into full view. The set resembling a ramen shop was an homage to the Alfredo 2 short film and cover art. Gibbs leaned into the concept, performing in a karate suit that gave the show both humor and edge.

Gibbs is a Gary, Indiana native whose career has been built on vivid, street-level narratives delivered with grit and precision. Alchemist, hailing from Los Angeles, has spent decades crafting beats for hip-hop’s elite, from Mobb Deep and Nas to Action Bronson, developing a style defined by layered textures and moody atmosphere. Their partnership bridges those strengths, making the live show feel both raw and cinematic.

The duo ran through highlights from both Alfredo projects, with Alchemist’s beats carrying the same weight live as they do on record. Gibbs also reached into his catalog for “Crime Pays” from Bandana, his 2019 collaboration with Madlib, while Alchemist carved out a moment of his own by spinning “We Gonna Make It,” his classic cut with Jadakiss and Styles P, to the crowd’s approval.

The Dallas stop captured the balance of two artists who elevated one another; finally giving Alfredo and its sequel the stage it was always meant to have.
