The event also featured a 3-on-3 youth basketball showcase and a surprise Sports Matter Grant awarded by the DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation to the Top Achievers Foundation. The weekend's events highlighted the importance of athletics in uniting the community and the value placed on athletes in Dallas.

The new DICK’S House of Sport on Dallas Parkway opened its doors with a grand celebration that mixed giveaways, live activations, and appearances from some of the city’s biggest names in sports. The Cowboys were front and center, with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver George Pickens kicking off the opening weekend festivities on Friday. Their presence gave the event a true star-studded feel, as fans lined up not just to get their jerseys and other Cowboys memorabilia signed, but to meet two of the most talked-about players in Dallas.

The 100,000+ square-foot facility is unlike a typical sporting goods store. It’s designed as an interactive sports hub, featuring a rock-climbing wall, golf bays equipped with TrackMan simulators, and a multi-sport cage where customers can take swings or shots while testing the latest equipment. For Prescott, this type of space shows the community-minded vision of DICK’S and its investment in young athletes.

“Having a place where you can come and you can enhance your abilities, enhance your skills in whatever sport it may be—it’s just awesome,” Prescott said. “It says a lot about the company and what they do and how much they care about their community. I’m glad to just be a part of it.”

Dak Prescott: A Decade of Leadership

Prescott is no stranger to the spotlight. Since entering the league in 2016 as a fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State, he has shouldered the expectations of being the quarterback of America’s Team. He surprised the football world as a rookie by leading the Cowboys to a 13–3 record, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and a Pro Bowl selection. Since then, Prescott has compiled nearly 30,000 passing yards and more than 200 touchdowns while guiding Dallas through both highs and lows.

“It’s a blessing,” Prescott said. “Understanding what it means to be the quarterback for this team, this organization, this city, understanding the responsibilities that go with it. I’m super grateful for it. I don’t take a day for granted. I just hope to continue to inspire people through my story, make people better, and give the city everything that I have.”

Now in his tenth season, Prescott remains driven. He spoke about the Cowboys’ bounce-back win over the New York Giants in Week 2, a performance that steadied the team after a tough opener.

“Yeah, solid start. Being 1-1. [I wish] it was 2-0, obviously, but a good start to the season, obviously getting that first home win against a division opponent was huge,” he said. “We’ve got a young team with the right veteran leaders who just continue to stack these successful games and we’ll put ourselves in a great spot.”

That mix of measured optimism and accountability has made Prescott a trusted leader within the locker room. Off the field, he’s equally committed to service, from cancer research fundraising to supporting the Salvation Army’s holiday campaigns. For Prescott, being the Cowboys quarterback is about more than stats—it’s about impact.

“When you turn on the TV and you watch your favorite team and your hometown team, the Dallas Cowboys, you’re gonna see my face,” he said. “And so it’s important for me to not only allow you to see me on the TV, but allow you to see the real person and to make relationships. And it’s awesome where you can do it with companies like DICK’S and people that you partner with. Just make it very natural for you to do what you love—and that’s [to] inspire.”

George Pickens: A Fresh Start in Dallas

If Prescott represents stability, George Pickens brings new energy. The wide receiver joined the Cowboys this offseason after two seasons in Pittsburgh, where his physicality and highlight-reel grabs made him one of the NFL’s most exciting young talents. At 6-foot-3 with elite body control, Pickens is built in the mold of Dallas greats who came before him.

Pickens has quickly settled into life in Dallas. “It’s been pretty good. I can’t complain. The weather is way better than where I was before,” Pickens said with a smile. “Seeing a whole lot of people—it was great just for them to come out, especially at DICK’S House of Sport [for this event].” The move also carried a personal connection. “My [aunt] used to live in Dallas years ago, so it’s not really too new for me,” he said.

Pickens’ connection to Dallas also comes through the players he grew up watching. “I really never had an NFL team, to be honest. I was [more of a fan of players],” he said. “[A couple] of my favorite players [were] Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant. It’s just great being in Dallas.”

Irvin, known as “The Playmaker,” was the centerpiece of the Cowboys’ dynasty in the 1990s, setting the tone with toughness and passion that helped Dallas capture three Super Bowls. Bryant carried that torch in the 2010s, using his strength and leaping ability to become the Cowboys’ all-time leader in receiving touchdowns. Pickens’ admiration for both men underscores how stepping into a Cowboys uniform ties him to a rich lineage of receivers who defined eras.

“At events like this, you see Dak as a chill guy. [He’s] the same way on the field too, as far as communicating. Getting guys in the right spots [and] making plays. Definitely a humble guy [and] a good leader for sure.”

His growing connection with Prescott could shape the Cowboys’ season. “[It]’s been great,” Pickens said. “At events like this, you see Dak as a chill guy. [He’s] the same way on the field too, as far as communicating. Getting guys in the right spots [and] making plays. Definitely a humble guy [and] a good leader for sure.”

Pickens’ explosiveness alongside Prescott’s leadership and other reliable targets like CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson gives Dallas’ passing attack potential to do great things.

Wings Join the Celebration

The grand opening festivities continued on Saturday, September 20, when the Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale headlined the 3-for-All Classic, a 3-on-3 youth basketball showcase featuring players from the Top Achievers Foundation. Following the tournament, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation awarded the organization a surprise Sports Matter Grant.

More Than a Store

From football to basketball, the weekend at the new House of Sport served as a reminder of how athletics can unite a community, bringing fans, established stars, and rising talents together under one roof. For Dak Prescott and George Pickens, it was another reminder of how much this city values its athletes not only for their performance on the field, but also for their presence in the community.
