Kim Burgan & Alexis Bromley: Investing in Health, Investing in Hope

When Kim Burgan, Chief Marketing and Development Officer, and Alexis Bromley, Director of Development, talk about Prism Health North Texas, they speak not just as leaders, but as neighbors.

โ€œIโ€™m a Dallas native and proud Oak Cliff resident,โ€ says Burgan. โ€œFor me, this work is personal. Everyone deserves to get the care they need, when they need it, no matter what their circumstances are.โ€

At the organizationโ€™s Oak Cliff Health Center, Prism provides a full suite of services all under one roof: primary care, behavioral health, clinical research, lab testing, and pharmacy access.

Over the past 15 years, the clinic has served thousands of patients, helping families navigate chronic illness, access prescriptions, and stay healthy year-round.

Bromley adds, โ€œIn 2026, weโ€™ll celebrate our 40th anniversary with a renewed focus on expanding services here in Oak Cliff. We plan to add pediatric and womenโ€™s health care to make this clinic a true one-stop resource for whole-family wellness.โ€

Right next door, the Empowerment Center provides community support through educational workshops, mental health programming, and neighborhood events. โ€œItโ€™s about more than medicine,โ€ Bromley explains. โ€œItโ€™s about building relationships and helping people feel seen and supported in their care.โ€

What Makes Community Health Centers Different

For nearly 40 years, Prism Health North Texas has served as a community health center. Itโ€™s a nonprofit model designed to ensure no one is turned away, regardless of insurance status, income, or background.

โ€œCommunity health centers like Prism are the safety net of our healthcare system,โ€ explains Dr. Carlo. โ€œWe provide care for everyone from primary and preventive services to behavioral health, dental, and chronic illness management. Our teams reflect the communities we serve, and our mission is rooted in dignity, access, and respect.โ€

In Dallas, where more than one in five adults lack health insurance, that mission has never been more vital. Prism Health North Texasโ€™ clinics are strategically located in areas where healthcare access is limited, offering services where patients live, work, and raise families.

Dr. Carlo adds, โ€œOur centers are designed to feel like private practices, with the same level of professionalism and personalized attention, just without the high price tag.โ€

Dr. Nathan Luke On Why Primary Care Matters More Than Ever

When patients think about healthcare, they often picture urgent care visits or last-minute appointments, but primary care, says Dr. Nathan Luke, is where true wellness begins.

โ€œPrimary care is your introduction to the healthcare system,โ€ says Dr. Luke, a family medicine physician at Prismโ€™s Uptown Physicians Group. โ€œItโ€™s not just about treating illness, itโ€™s about prevention, connection, and building a relationship with someone who knows you and your health.โ€

Prism Health North Texas provides vaccinations, wellness exams, and chronic condition management for patients of all ages. For families, the ability to schedule same or next-day appointments, often for multiple family members, means care is both accessible and efficient.

โ€œHaving a reliable primary care provider helps detect issues early, preventing complications and saving money down the line,โ€ Dr. Luke explains. โ€œOur goal is to help patients live longer, healthier lives, and that starts with trust.โ€

At Prism, patients can pay for appointments on a sliding scale based on income, with visits starting as low as $10. โ€œCost should never be the reason someone delays care,โ€ Dr. Luke adds. โ€œWeโ€™re here to make healthcare possible for everyone.โ€

Supporting Prism Health North Texas: How You Can Help

As funding delays and program cuts ripple through Texasโ€™ healthcare system, community support has become essential. With Texas leading the nation in uninsured adults, donations and sponsorships help Prism continue offering vital services like counseling, transportation, and same-day prescriptions.

Burgan says it best: โ€œOur patients canโ€™t wait for funding. When you donate, attend an event, or even become a patient yourself, youโ€™re helping a neighbor access the care they need today.โ€
