The evening featured an impressive 151 custom-designed looks, all conceptualized and created by students in Dallas College’s fashion program. The sheer volume of designs underscored both the program’s growth and the depth of emerging creative talent across North Texas.

More than just a runway, the show was structured around distinct design themes, allowing students to explore cohesive storytelling across collections. One of the standout moments of the night came from the sophomore challenge, centered on the theme “Immortal Joy.” The segment invited designers to interpret joy as something enduring—resulting in vibrant color palettes, expressive textures, and emotionally resonant pieces that captured optimism through fashion.

From structured, high-fashion eveningwear to expressive street-style collections, the runway reflected a wide spectrum of aesthetics and influences. Each piece carried a distinct narrative, with designers using fabric, silhouette, and styling to communicate identity, culture, and forward-thinking design perspectives.

The sold-out audience—comprised of faculty, family members, and members of Dallas’ creative community—filled The Astoria with energy, reinforcing the significance of the moment for students presenting their work in a professional setting. For many, the showcase marked a critical transition point from classroom development to real-world industry exposure.

Adding to the evening’s credibility was a panel of judges that included notable voices in fashion and media, such as D’Andra Simmons and Kenya J. Moody, alongside other industry figures. Their presence brought both visibility and validation to the students’ work.

Reflecting on the experience, judge Mahari Montgomery shared his enthusiasm following the event:

“Today was truly brilliant… it was the best experience I’ve had in forever! Great job to the students, professors, and staff of Dallas College.”

Beyond the runway, the production itself highlighted the program’s commitment to immersive, hands-on learning. Students were actively involved in all aspects of the showcase—from design and garment construction to styling, coordination, and execution—mirroring the collaborative nature of the fashion industry.

A defining moment of the evening came with senior designer Carlos Cordona, who emerged as one of the night’s top honorees, earning a $1,000 award for his standout collection. Cordona’s work drew strong praise from judges for its execution, originality, and clear design perspective—hallmarks of a designer ready to transition from academic training into the professional arena. His win not only underscored his individual talent, but also highlighted the caliber of students coming out of Dallas College’s fashion program, where creativity is being matched with industry-ready skill sets.
