Rumor: Mahershala Ali’s Blade Finally Getting Prioritized at Marvel

After being stuck in production limbo for what seems like forever, the MCU’s Blade is finally garnering attention at Marvel Studios, as per recent speculations. Announced in 2019, the much-awaited film has yet to receive any promising update regarding its release. Nevertheless, it is now being reported that Marvel is actively prioritizing Blade over several other projects.

Marvel’s Blade gets exciting plot and production update with new rumor

The team behind the upcoming R-rated movie Blade is reportedly looking for a filmmaker at the moment. While the project has undergone this process twice so far, things seem to be progressing better this time around.

The speculation transpired after The Cosmic Circus‘ Alex Perez provided an update on Blade in their December Discord Q&A. While shedding light on the Mahershala Ali-led movie’s possible future, Perez stated that Blade has now climbed up the priority ladder at Marvel.

“Blade’s got more priority to push out at the moment as opposed to Armor Wars. Right now, they’re just looking to find a director to direct the project,” Perez remarked. “It’s going along better than it was previously,” he added.

The internet scooper then confirmed some more details regarding the main antagonist of Marvel’s Blade. “The story now has a modern time setting, but Lilith is still the main villain and she isn’t a one-and-done villain,” he stated.

Despite the promising update from Perez, Marvel has yet to officially declare any progress regarding Blade. The movie was previously slated to come out on November 7, 2025. However, in an October 2024 announcement, Blade was removed from Marvel’s 2025 release calendar.

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige has since come out to reassure fans that the project will see the light of day in the near future. In a recent interview, Feige confirmed that “the character will indeed arrive in the MCU.”

While Mahershala Ali continues to be a part of the much-delayed movie, Blade currently sits without an official release date.

Additionally, Atwell has portrayed alternate universe versions of Peggy, sometimes referred to as Captain Carter, in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and What If…? It’s not immediately clear which version of Peggy Atwell will play in Avengers: Doomsday.

Outside of Marvel, Atwell stars as Grace in the Mission: Impossible franchise and will soon be seen portraying a character named Madison in Paddington in Peru, which arrives in the United States in February 2025.
