With figures like Kodak Black, Tory Lanez and Da Baby in the rap industry, there is a reminder that what you hear an artist’s songs is at times an uncomfortable misogynistic reality. As the music industry continues to progress and has conversations about these artists, we should question how we reconcile the way an artist speaks and at times behaves, with the work they have produced.
