Much of the country was introduced to Kentorion King through a seven-second highlight.
The viral clip showcased the Waxahachie wide receiver’s remarkable acceleration. After making the catch, King pulled away from the defense and raced roughly 70 yards for a touchdown. One X post about the play has reached more than 7.7 million views, putting one of North Texas’ top prospects in front of a nationwide audience. But for King and his NIL agent, Paul Randle, it’s just step one.
The conversation with Dallas Weekly last year focused on Randle’s journey into sports representation and his athlete-first way of doing things. Working with King highlights another example of how he identifies talented young athletes looking to build careers beyond the field.
Randle was immediately impressed by what he saw in King.
“What I saw was athletic explosiveness,” Randle said. “Something that was just unique. I knew that he had next-level talent, and that’s really what attracted me.”
Meeting King confirmed Randle’s initial evaluation.
“When I got to meet him and talk to him, he was very articulate,” Randle said. “He was very driven, self-driven. He knew the vision. He knew where he wanted to go and kind of had a roadmap of how he was going to go about it.”
That’s why Randle felt King was the perfect fit for Team IFA.
“I knew he was the right guy for IFA,” Randle said. “He wanted everything that he needed to get better and continue to get better in football. I wanted to stand on the table for him, bring value to him and build off of what he already had within himself.”
King kicked off his senior season by showing why Randle had so much belief in him. The senior tallied four receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns during Waxahachie’s 72-14 season-opening victory over rival Ennis. King’s play was part of Waxahachie’s balanced attack that seemed to make a statement from the game’s opening kickoff.
Still, King hopes viewers won’t just see him as a deep threat.
“I want people to see my routes,” King said. “I feel like everybody hasn’t seen my routes yet. Really good routes, elite routes. When they see that, then they’ll know what type of athlete I am.”
King said Waxahachie’s strong rapport on offense stood out during the performance.
“I feel like we all went out there and dominated as a team,” King said. “We had a great week of practice, so we knew we were going to go out there and dominate like we were supposed to. The connection with the quarterback, everybody, nobody busted the whole game. I feel like we went out there and did what we were supposed to do.”
His deep-route abilities may grab people’s attention, but King wants coaches to know he’s just as strong in the classroom. The Division I recruit said he is a strong student who takes his academics seriously. As the oldest in his household, King said that responsibility helps him stay focused, remain close to God and treat his family well.
With King’s stock on the rise, Randle fills more of a mentorship role than ever. He still seeks to secure NIL deals that help King reach his goals, but he also wants King to know he can lean on his Team IFA representative when he needs it.
“[Kentorion] is someone that doesn’t really need a whole lot because he’s so self-driven and self-motivated,” Randle said. “He understands that there’s always work to be done. I just try to be empowering, be positive and continue to be that support.”
Randle wants to continue fueling King with that same confidence. Whether it’s sitting down with coaches or traveling to catch a game in person, he wants his client to know he’s behind him no matter what.
Having a full-service agency, according to Randle, also allows King to focus on being the best football player he can be while receiving support through client management, marketing and branding.
“The main thing is football,” Randle said. “He understands that the attention comes with reaching the goals he has for himself, and it’s not a distraction to him. Having that support system gives him everything he needs to continue being successful.”
That’s a belief King shares.
“I know I’m a great athlete, and I’m going to get a lot of views because of the plays I make,” King said. “That’s just something I know is going to happen. I just balance everything.”
King’s moment has already been featured on some of sports’ largest platforms, including the popular Nightcap podcast, where hosts Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Joe Johnson talked about King’s viral play.
“It does feel great getting that big-time attention from big-time people,” King said. “But me as an athlete, I already knew that making plays on the field was going to get that type of attention.”
Randle believes King’s confidence is backed by his work ethic.
“He’s just that dawg,” Randle said. “It’s something you can’t teach.”
Randle believes what makes King stand out from other talented football players is his willingness to make sacrifices and go the extra mile day in and day out.
“He’s willing to put in work beyond what’s required of him,” Randle said. “Those are the guys you see go on to play at the highest level because they know what’s required.”
In Randle’s eyes, King can play at that highest level.
“He definitely has National Football League potential,” Randle said. “He’s only scratching the surface.”
King is glad to have someone fighting for his career with the same belief.
“He’s a very supportive guy,” King said. “He comes to my games. He shows love to me and my family. Anything I need, he got me. He’s always there.”
King and Randle don’t want this moment to be fleeting. They both want to build something that will last long after the viral attention fades.
