Every year since 1988, December 1 has been known as World AIDS Day. This year marks 40 years since the very first cases of AIDS were officially reported. World AIDS Day is acknowledged worldwide, giving a voice to the over 38 million people currently living with HIV as well as the over 36 million who have lost a loved one to the disease.Â
