The Class of 2021 had very prominent prospects when it came to Texas high school softball. With soaring stats and an eagle eye for perfection, former Forney High School graduate Vanessa Hollingsworth was one of the leaders in the sport. Hollingsworth had a striking senior season. According to Dallas Morning News, the 5’9 infielder finished up with 66 RBIs, a hit record of .588 with 57 hits, 17 doubles, five triples and 58 runs in 31 games, broadcasting her talent as the team’s shortstop.
When her senior year was coming to an end and signing day was approaching, it was time for the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year to choose the program that was best suited for her. Although she was offered a scholarship at other programs including Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Texas, Vanessa ultimately chose the Mizzou Tigers. The Tigers’ head coach, Larissa Anderson, is impressed and excited to see what the incoming freshman brings to the table.
“Vanessa is a next-level hitter and she is going to be a force at the plate for us. She has scary power at the plate. The ball just explodes off her bat,” said Anderson.

Even the greatest athletes become fans of others. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the top 100 ranked player’s favorite athlete is Hall of Famer and six-time NBA Champion, Michael Jordan.
“He was focused on the mental part of winning. He was a tough love leader. What he showed me in the documentary [The Last Dance], made me fall in love with him more,” Hollingsworth told the Dallas Morning News.
Here at DW we are excited to see the steps Hollingsworth takes to become a standout in the dugout for her new team. As she begins her freshman year as a Tiger at Mizzou, DW wishes Forney native Vanessa Hollingsworth a healthy and home-run filled season. We congratulate Hollingsworth on her accomplishments and success as she makes her mark at the college level.
